Rabindra Jayanti in Prague, 12 May, 2019

            H.E. Mrs. Narinder Chauhan, Ambassaor of India to the Czech Republic attended the celebrations of the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore held on 12 May, 2019 at Thakurova, Prague. The celebrations were organized by the members of the Bengali community and Czech community including Indologists.

2.         Ambassador led the celebrations with floral homage at the bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at Thakurova in Prague. In her remarks, Ambassador referred to the life and works of Gurudev, the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize. Ambassador expressed satisfaction that the life and works of this illustrious son of India have been immortalised in the Czech Republic. Ambassador utilised the opportunity to inform the participants of the India booth at ongoing World Book Fair in Prague which prominently featured Gurudev’s writings. Ambassador also informed of other public diplomacy activities of the Embassy including ongoing celebrations of Bapu@150, forthcoming International Day of Yoga, and Festival of India in June. Ambassador suggested holding a retrospective of films based on Gurudev’s writings. 

3.         An open air cultural programme was organized which included chorus singing of ‘He Nutan’, dance performance ‘momo Chitte niti nritye (Rabindra Nritya)’, Gurudev and Einstein etc; the Bengali Department of the Charles University led by Mr. Martin Hribek gave a presentation in Bengali on Gurudev and Czechoslovakia. The celebrations concluded with the singing of Gurudev’s ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ & ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
